January/February Newsletter Notes from the JHS directors – Happy New Year!! The annual JHS winter band concert will be held on Monday, February 13th, starting at 7:00 p.m. in the Jefferson Gym. Groups featured on the concert will include Jazz II, Jazz I, the Red and White Concert Bands, the Symphonic Band and the Wind Ensemble. Solo and Ensemble Contest: Solo and Ensemble contest is at Little Falls this year on Wednesday, February 15th. JHS will take 50 entries to contest. Students will be evaluated by professional educators and be given a short clinic and ratings after their performances. Auditions for the 2006-2007 JHS Bands will be taking place the week of February 20th. Students will be receiving audition materials by the beginning of February. New Marching Band Uniforms Update Two uniform companies have submitted samples and the final uniform design will be selected soon. Right now, funding is on track for the new uniforms. The District 206 community and band alumni have been contacted to help make this goal of new uniforms a reality. If there are service organizations in the community that would like to help in the uniform project, please have them call the JHS music office: 762-7758. One of the directors will be available to attend any group’s meeting for more in-depth information sharing. The goal is have new uniforms for the band’s 2006 trip to Orlando. 2006 Marching Band Updates The 2006 JHS Marching Band will be performing George Gershwin’s “Rhapsody in Blue” and “An American In Paris” this summer. The final summer schedule will be sent out by mid – March. The summer marching season will begin June 5th and end on July 4th. Please plan ahead for a great summer! December 2006 Trip Updates The JHS Marching Band has accepted an invitation to march in two outstanding parades in December of 2006. Our band will be performing in the nationally televised Capital One Bowl Parade in downtown Orlando. ABC broadcast the parade this past December to 70% of it’s national affiliates, and 2006 it is expected to broadcast to 100% of it’s affiliates across the United States. The second parade the band will march in is the Macy’s Universal Parade on the groups of Universal Studios, Florida. Plans are underway to ensure a wonderful trip for students, staff and chaperones that will provide life-long memories. |
