News from the Directors

Greetings!  This letter is to inform you of some important news pertaining to the December trip to Orlando.  We are looking forward to this exciting experience for the students in the band.  Always refer to the band’s website for any future updates and information on the trip:  www.jhsmarchingband.org

Flu Shots for students, chaperones, and parents going on trip

It is highly recommended that everyone going on the trip get a flu shot.  Being ill on a trip is no fun - hopefully everyone can stay healthy when we travel!  The Alex Clinic will be providing flu shots in the JHS faculty lounge on Friday, October 27th from 3:00 – 3:45 p.m. for anyone wanting one.  If there are more than 100 people getting the shot, the cost will be $25 per person.  If there are less than 100 people receiving the shot, the cost will be $30 per person.  The clinic will accept only cash or check for the shot, and will not submit any insurance claims.  Make checks payable to:  Alexandria Clinic

So we have an accurate count of those individuals wanting a flu shot, please RSVP by Monday, October 23rd on the enclosed form.  Turn this form in to the JHS Band Office by Monday, October 23rd.    If a student is under the age of 18, a parent/guardian must sign the form!

November 6th Concert & Trip Parent Meeting

We hope to see everyone at the annual fall concert on Monday, November 6th.  The concert will start at 7:30 p.m. in the JHS Gym, and will feature the Wind Ensemble, Symphonic Band, and Concert Band.  The students have been working hard in class and will shine on the concert!  After the concert is finished, there will be a trip meeting in the JHS Gym for all students, parents and chaperones.  This meeting should take approximately 15-20 minutes and will cover all aspects of the trip.  A trip booklet will be handed out at this meeting for all parents and students.  Attendance at this parent and student meeting is strongly recommended!

Getting Students Ready to perform in Orlando

Getting all the students ready to perform in Orlando will take some time to refine their marching and playing skills.  The music for the parades will be rehearsed in each band hour after the November concert.  Two full band rehearsals have been scheduled for the JHS Marching Band to prepare for the two performances in Orlando.   These two rehearsal dates are:

  • Monday, December 4th – @ DMS Gym from 7-9 p.m.

  • Monday, December 18th – @ DMS Gym from 7-9 p.m.

Students should clear their schedules for these two important rehearsals!!

Last items

The new black ‘Dinkles’ have been ordered and should be here soon.  We got an outstanding deal on the new shoes to keep the cost down for students.  Students are urged to get them broken in before the trip.  Walking and keeping legs strong as we end fall and start winter is important.

That’s it for now – see you all at the November 6th concert!
